The Northeast Florida Chapter held a special evening reception with the Chapter’s first-ever local Scholarship Recipient, Alexis Dekrell. The reception ws held Saturday evening, August 1, 2015 at Dave & Buster’s at 6:00 pm. Alexis is leaving for her freshman year at Ol’ Mizzou later in the middle of August and our Chapter wanted to celebrate her new journey in style.
A night full of exciting activities were included along with the presentation of some very special gifts for Alexis.
Ms. Dekrell has demonstrated a balanced academic career while maintaining a 3.98 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society, she has served as the Leader for the Anti-Bullying Club and was named Team Captain of the Nease Lacrosse team. Her volunteer activities included serving as a Children’s Small Group Church leader and as a school tutor for three years. She is currently employed 15 hours per week.
Alexis wrote in her essay that without a college education, her goals will remain dreams. She is committed to working in order to seek opportunities which will make her dreams a reality. By obtaining the NEFL scholarship, she has pledged to continue to apply the same assiduity to her collegiate studies as she has thus far in her life, always making education and community service her top priorities. She stated, “With a Mizzou Alumni Association Scholarship, I will be one step closer to fulfilling my desire to help others and expand my knowledge base in the medical field.”
